We’re a DPS-certified Smart Start service center located at 1149½ Airport Blvd in East Austin, and we have a dedicated Smart Start kiosk on-site—so you can handle installation, calibration, and monitoring all in one convenient location.

What Is a Smart Start Ignition Interlock?
A Smart Start ignition interlock device is a compact breathalyzer that integrates with your vehicle’s ignition system. Before your engine will start, you provide a breath sample into the mouthpiece. If your breath alcohol concentration is below the legal limit, the vehicle starts normally. The device also requires random rolling retests during your drive to verify continued sobriety—these will never shut off your engine, but skipping or failing a retest is logged and reported.
Smart Start’s devices are available in bilingual English and Spanish, feature guided on-screen prompts, and include a self-diagnostic system that alerts you to any issues. The device is about the size of a smartphone and is installed discreetly near the driver’s seat.
Installation, Calibration & Monitoring
Here’s how the process works at Leos:
- Call Smart Start at (800) 831-3299 or fill out their online form to set up your account and coordinate your device order.
- Schedule your installation at Leos Service Station by calling us at (512) 926-4110. Same-day appointments may be available.
- Our technician installs the Smart Start device, connects it to your vehicle’s ignition system, and provides hands-on training so you’re comfortable before you leave.
- Return to Leos for your required calibration appointments. Texas typically requires calibration every 30 to 67 days. Appointments take about 15–20 minutes using our on-site kiosk.
What to Bring to Your Appointment
- Photo ID (driver’s license or state ID)
- Court documents or DPS paperwork related to your IID requirement
- Vehicle registration (if the vehicle is not in your name, the registered owner may need to be present)
- Smart Start lease agreement or documentation from your monitoring authority
We Install on All Vehicle Types
Our technicians install Smart Start devices on standard passenger cars, trucks, SUVs, and electric and hybrid vehicles—including Tesla. EV installations are more complex due to the unique wiring systems, but our team has the experience to handle them. If you drive a Tesla or another EV, let us know when you schedule so we can allow extra time for the installation.
